Establishing a reputation takes a long time. Beyond protecting intellectual property with patents, competition is an excellent way to achieve rank or status. National competitions and contests identify an individual with unique skills. Anyone who belonged to an Olympic team is obviously an athlete regardless of winning a gold medal.
Donald Trump stated, in "How to be a Millionaire," people are measured by wins and losses. Wins produce future wins. This is what he observed as a wealthy, successful man. Knowing how successful he is, people take his advice seriously and think about it when observable in their own life.
A family reputation produces opportunities; however, a guy I grew up with did not have any notable reason to believe he was an excellent interior designer. Where he grew up, his family or education implied he would work in an office. He entered a contest and won. This impacted his life immeasurably. Suddenly he could become successful in an artistically inclined industry.
Another friend complained about people's "expectations." Expectations are a type of damnation. It wasn't expectations unnerving him; it was the type of expectation. His family was military and he wanted to be in a successful band. When people expected him to put on a great show, write great lyrics and sing well he was happy to oblige because it reflects his wants and desires.
Criticism assists in identify which competition to enter. Positive and negative statements identify strengths and hone skills. I never thought of entering contests until going to a private school. My English teacher said my poetry was exceptional. Another student became jealous and maintained his position as the best writer in the class by mentioning the past contests he entered with favorable results. Luckily he didn't win; otherwise, might have been intolerable. This experience led to me entering a national poetry contest for teens. I earned an honorable mention for "Slaughter House" which is now titled "Animals Dreams." This may seem inadequate by some standards, yet there were thousands of submissions. It was a rewarding experience to establish capability and ranking in relation to other people.
Some people believe being the best is the only position with reward. In consideration of ethical and moral character remember sportsmanship. An honest win verifies personal capabilities and inspires growth through learning and sharpening skills.
Often people think they can do anything without trying. When I tried to stop smoking my friend said they could do it at anytime. Since they never tried and their opinion is devalued. It sounds conceited. When a person never proves skills their word is invalid.
Most famous and truly successful people had many steps before making a breakthrough. They entered competition, exhibited work to anyone and took low paying jobs. These steps develop an audience and support for future ventures. Many people believe internet blogging is amateurish. However, more people are able to view a person's talent and become future moral support and patrons. Later on, an existing audience makes it possible to expand to larger ventures.
It doesn't matter when an event took place. The third grade choir won third place in nationals. Years later, people are excited and more receptive to the idea of becoming a vocalist. In addition, during the experience I learned singing in a way to hone the skill.
In Donald Trump's story he wanted to be a Film Director. His family's influence won. He was only able to get loans for owning rental properties, since his family was landlords. Trump also started off wealthy; however, any activity to increase and sharpen skills will pay off eventually. Don't feel inhibited by age. Trump eventually directed his own successful show. Competition is a standard method many people utilize to establish themselves as a unique and capable person.
