Ideas about Hiring

It is difficult working with hundreds of people. A company wants to hire the most qualified Employees. Unfortunately, there are schisms between special interest groups, ideology, religion and race. There is also a fear of criminal or dangerous characteristics. Many companies attempt to use credit reports to identify if someone will be a good Employee.

A Home or Small Business Owner should always take time to prepare for future success. Even if not hiring anyone, a future goal is to hire Employees. What would you do to protect your business from higher insurance premiums or lawsuits?

Corporations have a Board of Members. The Board of Members are Entrepreneurs in a similar business. They are paid to share helpful ideas. It is not a huge obligations. A Board of Members might meet over lunch for a couple hours monthly, biannually or annually.

Home and Small Business Owners do not have the luxury of paying successful Entrepreneurs to assist them with business. It is possible to glean ideas from observing corporate policies by reading trade journals. It is also possible to imagine people working together and envision scenarios to prepare a comprehensive plan. Doing both is most effective in acquiring ethical and beneficial results that are morally satisfactory.

Having several ideas about hiring, it is moot at this time. As a Home Business Owner hiring people is not a realistic venture. Everything has to be outsource. Employees is a realistic venture in the future.

Creating a list of various qualifications and accessing community needs, I imagine the type of person I would want to hire. It is also important to be realistic about budget. While I might grow the business into a successful top 500 company, it will be a small business that has to operate according to realistic profit margins.

A rule of thumb is, "Never do business with Friends and Family." This concept is fine. There are times when Friends and Family are important. Even if no longer being friends with one person, other Friends are able to continue helping with a business. Sometimes this is stress on a relationship, because only so many Friends and Family Members are actually able to envision the final realization of a business without being critical and realize there is a personal benefit to success.

Frequently, people do not feel a higher obligation to pay Family for work. Sometimes they even expect Friends to wait for payment. It is better to respect people and decide how to be in a give-and-take relationship. It is probably one of the first signs to many of how a business will generate income.

Family can assist in building a reputation; however, they can also be critical. Not treating them like a Customer is wrong. For whatever reason, people tend to pay loans to bank and credit companies much faster than paying loans to Friends and Family. There is also a tendency to think Friends and Family will appreciate everything. This is false. They expect better service and more attention.

For these reasons, the challenge is to connect with and grow a business through Customers. Customers who prefer a company because they enjoy a product or service.

Thinking about Friends and Family, there is tension. Even though everyone is able to talk to each other and occasionally quibble about topics, it can be intense. Imagine Friends and Family when they have an issue with someone else who appears to be threatening, critical, insincere or incompetent.

Businesses function around insincerity. Hundreds of Employees work an eight-hour shift daily. Someone determined they are qualified. It is illegal to ask questions about politics, religion, race, marital status, personal lifestyle, age and morality. Employers have thought a personal lifestyle is a reference to sexual preference. It is a broader topic of is someone is planning on having Children or going to nightclubs.

Companies found a method to get around moral questions with personality tests. The personality test is meant to match a person to a job. This test should not happen at work or during the interview process. People applying for a job demonstrate skills through past work experience, education and skills.

Companies also utilize criminal background checks. If a job requires driving or delivery, they want a copy of a person's driving record. If there is no reason for a criminal background check or driving record, it is possible to skip over those questions. Most Corporations are checking for violent behavior, or assault and battery.

If feeling awkward about a felony or misdemeanor charge, it is possible to apply for other jobs. Someone who stole a car could be trustworthy working at a call center. They should not apply to a car dealership or rental car service. I would not want to give them keys to any car. Be honest during the interview. It is surprising what people will accept. I do not have a criminal record. There is nothing on my driving record; except, traffic violations. Refusing employment to someone with a criminal record, is illegal.

Violent crime is the most volatile criminal history. There are methods to protect a company from harassment and violence. I will discuss those policies in another article.

Credit reports are controversial. They not useful and promote prejudice: except, loans, credit cards and housing. It is also useful in jobs involving money like a Cashier. This is another alteration of the law, because time not in school or holding a job might because they were in jail. This is not always true. References are not always trustworthy. People are able to lie for a Friend. They have been looking for a job; however, a criminal record also states if they were in jail and what crime they committed. A resume should explain everything an Employer should know.

Military service is also an interesting topic. Military service offers insight on work experience, education and skills. It can be a large portion of a person's work experience. Unfortunately, some want to stigmatize military service. A few decades ago, many people were entranced by Soldiers. It was in many movies and people often wanted to meet Veterans. This made it possible for Veterans to get promotions. In doing this, people were often kept in the same job even though they also went to college and were qualified to hold the job.

It is possible to place the information on a resume without having a special field for Military. Any comprehensive experience or skills have references. It is unnecessary information; except, when applying for veteran benefits.

It is important to hire the most qualified people. Sometimes it appears the most qualified people have similarities beyond work experience, education and skills. It is better to be honest about pay. Be optimistic about the future. Do not promise anything more than the current pay and job. Be skillful in verifying merit. Do not use prejudice in hiring policies.
