Sales Acuity

Sales and marketing is ever changing. At one time cute kids and dogs were sale ploys. Then family was important, because personal integrity is all important. In the 80s "sex sells." Currently shame optimizes sales. As in everything experimentation is necessary to find the limitation of a device and new real-estate findings are leaning towards wealthy buying small homes on large properties. Attempts to shame buyers, into buying a large mansion, resulted in loss of commissions.

Reading "the Te of Piglet" copyrighted in 1992 the author cites the beginning of this trend. "If the media build up some individuals in the public eye, it seems to be for the purpose of rubbing their remains in the public eye later on, in order to sell automobiles and toothpaste." From the same book, an adage relate to the topic is, "Painting legs on the snake." People who forget to care about customers become hallow.

Working in sales I quit because my supervisor was shameless in tormenting potential mentees even saying, "Sounds like your wife is more of a man than you." Everyone has a unique style. Normally the supervisor is softly spoken and avoids criticizing people. A man who is shy and sensitive applying these methods is divergent from one who is typically outspoken, yet when wanting to honestly help people it probably will work.

After hearing the news about current purchases someone may want to say, "You're just doing that because you cannot afford it." Perhaps they will be manipulated into buying an expensive mansion, yet when a person is making decisions based on values commentary is unappreciated. I am tired of explaining how I live my life and tired of people thinking they will be rude to get what they want. Letting them get what they want after insulting my intelligence or my beliefs rewards insults.

Perhaps people buying small home are aware of their expenses, understanding they should limit cost they may pay employees better or invest in future markets. Perhaps they have environmental concerns. The land is theirs so they are free to accommodate wild animals in the suburbs and cities. Perhaps it was less expensive to buy a small home and build a new home with the latest technology. In any case force is met with resistance.

Summarizing complex situations into nuggets of information is foolhardy. An excerpt from "the Te of Piglet" a person sees how the author falls on his own sword, since it is from the same chapter explaining media tactics.

When they hear of the Way,
The highest minds practice it;
The average minds think about it
And try it now and then;
The lowest minds laugh at it.
If they did not laugh at it,
It would not be the Way.

It appears to shame people into respecting opinions. Laozi is the wise hero, yet a few pages later shaming people is an incorrect action. Humorous proof of how Eeyores are ineffective it does offer advice. Beyond taking the time to understand how consumers are making decisions, humor is an excellent catalyst to approach issues, deliver information, assess needs and be truthful. Truth is important, yet it can damage a person's ego. A certain amount of glibness expresses concern, opposition and shame with a slight amount of humility. Humility is funny, as it appears those whom laugh at themselves have best sense of humor.

Feedback and communication are all the rage in the business world today. Perhaps it will collapse again if humorous promotion is inadequate. At the core of all successful verses catastrophic events, remembering to be a human and thinking about the other person's perspective makes an incredible difference in acuity.
